What is spiritual direction?
Spiritual direction is a ministry of listening, discernment, and prayer in a confidential setting of encouragement and compassion.
Through this ministry one finds a spiritual companion who can listen to the stories of one’s life and help discern the presence and work of the Divine.
What spiritual direction is not?
Spiritual direction is not psychotherapy, pastoral counseling, discipling, mentoring, or life coaching.
Although there may be some overlap with these helping roles, spiritual direction is primarily focused on the awareness of God in ordinary life experiences.
Spiritual direction takes place when two people agree to give full attention to God’s personal communication to them and respond in faith.
What happens during a spiritual direction session?
During a spiritual direction session with me, you explore your spiritual journey in a safe, nonjudgmental conversation.
Prayer is central to spiritual direction. Our conversation becomes prayer when we are both in tune with God’s presence.
The goal of spiritual direction is to help you cultivate a vibrant relationship with God.
We may discuss spiritual practices to deepen your faith or sit in silence as you discern God’s will or presence.
Paying attention to God is at the center of spiritual direction. Seeking God in the ordinary is an essential part of enjoying God’s presence.
How long does it last?
We usually meet once a month and the sessions last just under one hour. The companion process can occur in a few sessions or over several years. I’m able to meet in person and online through the Zoom or Facetime apps.
How much does it cost?
$45-$65 Whatever you can afford in this range in good conscience is acceptable. I turn no one away for lack of funds. A sliding scale fee can be discussed at the initial meeting.
Payment can be made through check, PayPal, Venmo, or Apple Pay. If you have not used these online payment methods. Email me and I will send you instructions.
How do I get started?
After contacted by a potential directee, we schedule a free discovery session. The introductory meeting gives the person a chance to tell me a little about themselves and to ask any questions.
